REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS REMEMBERING THE PURPOSE OF OUR BAPTISM
The baptism of Jesus prefigures the eventual establishment of the Sacrament of Baptism as the initiatory sacrament that washes away Original Sin and makes us children of God through water and the Holy Spirit. Jesus, at his baptism, is anointed with the power of the Holy Spirit. He is the proclaimed Messiah who has brought good news and salvation to the human race. The one in whom the Father is so pleased that signs and wonders are made manifest in his words and deeds. Through our baptism as Christians, our life is to be ordered to that of Jesus as sharers in his threefold mission of Priest, Prophet, and King. Our baptism configures us to Christ the basic challenge of authentic discipleship will always be to live a life that conforms with the life of
Christ.
