REFLECTION
ON TODAY’S READINGS -
Witnessing to the Gospel
In the first reading we see Paul and Barnabas speaking fearlessly to the
Jewish officials, who were envious that the preaching of the apostles
was attracting more people to the Christian faith. In the Gospel
Jesus is also speaking fearlessly about the mission entrusted to him
by the Father. Jesus, Paul, Barnabas and even the other apostles
were all filled with zeal and enthusiasm to proclaim the Good News
that their conviction was reflected in their speech. They were ready
to face any opposition because as the reading from the Acts says,
“The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.”
There are occasions in our own lives when we are called to speak with
conviction, when we are called to witness to the faith even in
adverse circumstances. If the apostles had buckled under fear and
opposition, then none of us would have been celebrating the faith
today. So, it is our responsibility then to fearlessly witness to the
faith, to speak against injustice, to work for the community in the
name of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. For this, like the apostles, we,
too, need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Therefore, let us pray
for an abundance of the gifts of the Spirit so that empowered by Him
we can boldly proclaim the Lord and give witness to the faith we have
received.
SYNOD UPDATE: Pray Connect Share Conversations have a long way to travel to reach the Synod of Bishops in Rome. But it is important to remember that engaging in conversation locally has great value the moment it is shared – value to you, given a voice in the Synod process. Value to us who are privileged to hear it. Value to your faith community and our diocese as we move forward in the ‘new normal.’ Submissions to the Synod will be accepted until June 3. The Synod team stands ready to assist. Visit http://www.antigonishdiocese.com/listeningchurch and complete the online survey; or send an email submission to listeningchurch@dioceseofantigonish.ca or by regular mail to: Listening Church, Diocesan Pastoral Centre, PO Box 100, Stn A Sydney NS. MOTHER’S
DAY MESSAGE: This weekend we are
celebrating Mother's Day 2022 and the nurturing we have received in
our lives from our mothers and from all who have supported our
lives, hopes and dreams. We are grateful for all the sacrifices
these women have made to help families and extended families
inter-generationally to support life in all its seasons. We remember
all Moms and significant women who have completed their earthy
journeys and seek their continued prayers and support.
We also pray for families who are facing the loss of moms through
separation and or death. We pray especially for all families in War
torn countries who continue to face the horrific impact of war and
conflict. May there continue to be a concerted effort by Nations
throughout the world to provide material, financial, moral support
and solidarity to our sisters and brothers who are in peril at this
time.
