REFLECTION ON TODAY’S READINGS - “Lord Teach us to Pray” – (Luke 11:1-13)

At the depth of each and every one of us is a desire to connect to God. Prayer is the expression of such a desire. The disciples of Jesus ask for the greatest of all lessons; to be taught to pray. In prayer, we commune with God. We come to have a beatific experience of God and heaven. Above all, Jesus teaches us that when we pray, the floodgates of heaven are opened. But how do we open the floodgates of heaven in prayer? The only virtue needed for us in prayer to open the doors of heaven is persistence. Any time we pray, we shift the goalpost of life to our area of competitive advantage over the devil. The forces of evil are overpowered when we pray. God listens to our sincere prayers and responds to all of them because He is just and good. The response of the Lord may not always correspond to what we want. The Lord knows and gives what is best for us. The delay of the Lord is not necessarily refusal. Hence, let us continue to pray with perseverance and accept what He gives or refuses as that which is best for us at the given moment.

"Many Indigenous peoples want Francis to make a clear apology for what happened on Indigenous land and commit to concrete action that promotes healing and right relationship.
That might be the easy part. The unseen work — and perhaps the more difficult work facing Francis — is with the rest of us, non-Indigenous. We're still grappling with the reality that "Indigenous issues" are Canadian and American issues. Or that our nations exist, whether we like it or not, because of relationships with Indigenous peoples."
